Matt Mullenweg’s response to Allen Leinwand’s post over at Gigaom entitled “Web 2.0, Please Meet Your Host, the Internet” turned on a few lightbulbs for me, especially considering what I went through a few years ago (link).
I have an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account and it’s amazingly easy to use, not to mention it does what both Matt and this commenter allude to - Leave it to the experts.
So, before the traffic starts pouring into the new network, I’ll be having any larger or high traffic files (template headers, movies, podcasts, etc.) served up by AWS.
Already, I’ve went through the templates for all the blogs and converted all the PHP tags to absolute urls to cut down on php calls and potential unnecessary processor load on the server, just in case. In the future there’ll be more preparation happening as well.
